In Holiday

Yes, it’s May the Fourth day again and Star Wars fans will be either turning to the dark side or embracing ‘the force’

In celebration of this annual day, here are 10 facts you might not know about a film so popular that it spawned its own religion.

10. Opening Credits

No CGI back in 1977, so the opening credits were filmed on a six foot long plate of printed text and the camera slowly paned down. This worked wonderfully and goes to show you don’t need fancy computers to make a special effect.

9. Yoda

The Jedi master, Yoda was originally supposed to be played by a monkey with a mask & cane.

8. Species I am

Speaking of Yoda. His species has never been named.

7. Darth Vader

David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader, has been banned from attending Star Wars events, apparently as he annoys George Lucas.

6. I am your Father

Darth Vader never says “Luke, I am your father.” – This line is never spoken in a Star Wars film, what is actually said is: “No, I am your father”.

5. Han Solo

Among the top contenders to play Han Solo were Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, and Christopher Walken.

4. Bad Feeling

The phrase “I have a very bad feeling about this.” is in every single Star Wars movie.

3. No Equality

There are no female fighter pilots. Even though female fighter pilots were in the original screenplay, they were removed from final cut.

2. Constants

The only characters that appear in all the films are C3PO and R2D2

1. Good Investment

The original Star Wars film is the third-highest-grossing film of all time, raking in close to $2 billion when adjusted for inflation
